Massillon Firm to Relocate to Canton Township

Canton, OH - April 2,2018 - Service Steel Aerospace has closed on the purchase of a 76,960 sf industrial facility located in the Canton Industrial Park-Shepler Church Complex. Steel Service Aerospace is one of the largest aerospace and titanium distributors in the world.

SSA is headquartered in Seattle, WA with other locations in Los Angeles, California, Wichita, Kansas and Windsor, Connecticut. SSA stocks a vast selection of aerospace quality steel and titanium products and serves industries in Commercial Aerospace, Defense Aerospace, the Oil Patch, Professional Racing, Medical and Firearms. Since 1997, SSA has been a member of the Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. which is a Fortune 500 company trading on the NYSE (RS).

SSA had outgrown their 30,000 sf facility on Walnut Ave SW in Massillon. SSA moved to Massillon in 2000 from Akron. Their new Class A facility was built for Meter Devices Inc. in 1999 and is over twice as large as their current facility.

The brick and block building is on 17.68 acres and is located at the end of Bruening Circle SW. There is plenty of excess land to allow future expansions. The industrial park is also home to FedEx, Kenworth Trucking, AT&T, Solmet, Bandag, Miller & Co., Interstate Fire and Security and Norm Eckinger Construction.

Wick Hartung, Co-Owner and Broker of Putman Properties, represented the Seller JKR, LLC of Canton. “ I have been involved with the Seller since Meter Devices vacated and I placed Armstrong Relocation into the building on a sublease six years ago. Partnerships liquidate assets for various reasons. In this case, the out- of-state Sellers ages and their desire to release the equity built up since 1999 were the deciding factors. There are not many industrial facilities available like this available in NE Ohio”.

The asking price for 76,960 sf on 17.68 acres was $3.5 million. Hartung reports the building generated numerous prospective buyers. The Stark Development Board, other brokers and professional investors were all waiting to pounce in case SSA’ s purchase didn’t work out.

Dan Spring of NAI Spring represented SSA. He reports SSA continues to grow by acquiring other related entities. Today SSA services over 10,000 customers in 33 countries.
